History

Rutherford Auto Body was founded on May 6, 1947 by Montrose and Donald Rutherford, father and son. The business operated out of a former mechanical shop located at Gender Road and Winchester Pike. Grandsons, Tom and Terry were raised in the shop, pounding on fenders and learning the trade. Montrose passed away in 1959 and Donald continued the business. In 1962, following graduation from high school, Tom Rutherford joined his father and two employees in operating the business. In 1964 Terry Rutherford (son and brother) joined the business after high school graduation.

Tom and Terry purchased the business from their father in 1977 and expanded the existing location three times by the addition of a total of 3,700 sq. ft. In 1989 they established a second location located at 685 Hill Road North in Pickerington, Ohio. The brothers operated both shops, purchased adjacent property at the Canal Winchester location and opened “SudSlingers Car Wash and Detail,” a full service car wash and detail shop in 2002.

Terry passed away in 2003 in a boating accident in Canada doing what he loved. He was a humanitarian who gave much to his family, his business and his community. He was able to live every day to the fullest, a lesson we can all learn from him.

"I had the best most professional customer service experience with Mark at Rutherford Auto Body. I was devastated after someone hit my brand new 2020 after only having it 60 days. Another shop that was supposed to tow my car in for repairs had me waiting for 2 days. I called my insurance agent for a referral and they referred Rutherford. I called, got Mark on the line and my car was towed in within an hour. It was smooth sailing every step of the way and giving me updates daily whether it was email or phone calls. Every question was answered. Mark even went above and beyond to assure me that no used parts will be used on my car after I saw on my estimate that the insureds insurance company wanted to use an aftermarket part. Mark assured me that that will not happen and it didn't. He even volunteered receipts of this. Mark was kind and very empathic washing my car twice before I arrived because of the pollen that had fallen during my transport over to pick it up. I would highly recommend this shop! Very professional!"

"Rutherford was the recommended repair shop from the insurance company when my car was hit in a parking lot. The first thing I did was look at the reviews online and there were mixed feelings about the customer support. One positive thing with them is that they have been in business for 70 years. During the repair, they did the following that impressed me. They emailed and called me thought the repair process. They did not give a completion date but they did inform me when they were waiting on a part or started painting. They were very thorough with the repair and did not cut any corners. I have had other shops tape around the tail lights and paint and Rutherford removed the bumper and corrected what the other shop did for the repair. Their attention to details and communications on the stage of the repair has won me over."

"Excellent workmanship and excellent customer service. After a fairly serious accident, I selected Rutherford based a recommendation from a friend. When I visited the first time, I found Angie to be friendly but more importantly honest and direct. She did not employ a sales pitch or try to make the process appear more complicated than it was. She only promised high quality work and to work directly with the insurance company. She kept me informed throughout the repair with regular email. I even visited the shop while they were working on my car. The shop was impeccably clean and the mechanic was actually happy to see my interest in their work. I have been taking my vehicles to Rutherford for body work for the past 20 years, and just picked my SUV up today after having repair work done from a recent accident. They consistently have the customer's best interest in mind, and they take great pride in the quality of their work. They were proactive in keeping me well informed, they were upfront and honest about all aspects of the repair process, and quickly responded to all questions that I had along the way. "My boyfriend recommended Rutherford because he said they do great work. What an understatement! They do amazing work! They repaired the passenger side fender and the front bumper. This included repainting the replaced/repaired parts and blending the paint so that you could not differentiate between what was repaired and what wasn’t. My car looks brand new inside and out!
